Here’s a very useful tip for everyone…
Of my many campaigns, a lot of times I promote new medical devices as those tend to have zero competition and a super profit margin.
Let’s take an example that one of the keywords is “[X] cure” for a product that I was promoting.
I did some tracking and saw that the search terms coming in was from English rock band “The Cure” and it just happened that [X] was a lyric in one of their songs – I totally was unaware!
Lesson learned…. before setting off a campaign, make sure the keyword volume is not coming from bands or movies or pop culture cliches.
Another way you can notice this is seeing how the keyword will have a very low CTR for some reason despite you using all the AdWords Killer ad copy techniques.
You can avoid this issue using a couple ways…..
1. Do a search on your keyword and see if the keyword tools say “band” “lyrics” “movies” etc…
2. As a universal rule, I always include the negative campaign keywords: lyrics, music, song, movie, download
The only exception is when you are promoting media related products.
Otherwise, our ad copy techniques like “super relevance” will be pulling in insane CTRs of horrible traffic!!!!
At the end of the day, by filtering out the crap and these extra visitors, your conversion rate in affiliate marketing will skyrocket.
This is just another step in the process towards creating a healthy income with Google’s pay-per-click system.
